FRUIT BODY: Up to 15cm high this variation of the nominate Macrotyphula fistulosa var. fistulosa is a stocky relative with a distorted appearance and a rounded tip that can be slightly darker than the overall buff colouration. Occasional longitudinal grooves can be obvious.   GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Buff and flexible. No distinct taste or smell. SPORES: Teardrop shaped, smooth, 10-16 x 5.5-8.5 µm; inamyloid, hyaline. HABITAT: Saprobic, on the ground or wood in leaf litter in deciduous woodlands. SEASON: Frequent.  Autumn to early winter. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
